Dead Man’s Lifestyle, the project of Jake Watkins from ‘Smalltown, USA’, incorporates elements of drone, ambient, noise, and plunderphonics to post-rock to create a lovely reverb filled atmosphere. Bastion starts off with ‘An Evening in the Void’, whose low, reverbed drones quickly set the atmosphere for the rest of the album. The drones continue, warp, and a guitar lead enters, slowly building up (in typical post-rock fashion). A simple, powerful guitar rhythm breaks out briefly, with the lead continuing overtop. After the buildup breaks, the songs slowly dies out with some ambient, field recording sounds. - Mathias Timmerman
